Beginning from 2013 Michael Hinz taught himself how to take photographs. In the following years he assisted a number of different photographers throughout Germany. In September 2014 he gets the chance to work independently as a staff photojournalist for the Wiesbaden town hall. In the following years, he worked independently as a selfemployed photographer and applies successfully in 2020 for a place on the “Photojournalism and Documentary Photography” programm at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hanover. During his studies, he mainly works on free social documentary topics such as: depression, street crime and fetal alcohol syndrome in children. His last pictures for the report "Derek" made it into the top 12 reports of the year in 2021 and was published in the Süddeutsche Zeitung as well as in the anthology of the "Hansel-Mieth-Prize". He works for clients such as FAZ, SZ, Zeit, FPS-Law, Formaxx AG, Definet, Allgeier Experts, Wiesbaden Ballet Academy. In January 2025 he graduated from university of applied science earning his bachelors degree in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography. 


He has been an intern photographer for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung from April to Oktober 2023.
